Runs With Scissors

027
I have always wanted a GIANT pair of scissors as a decoration for my craft room. When I saw these plastic scissors at the 99cent store, I knew I had to have them!! I just gave them a coat of BLACK spray paint in a MATT finish. Then I used my silver SHARPIE to color in the rivet. Then I attached them to the wall with a double sided 3M COMMAND PICTURE HANGING STRIPS. Now I’m going to add some GIANT letters that spell out “CREATE” in the center of the wall. Thanks for looking!

Here is a picture of it when I remembered to take the “before picture”

Ribbon Shelf

Okay, you might remember this shelf from HERE. I painted it a while back since I had the paint out anyway.  I needed a shelf for some of my ribbon.  I still have 1/2 of a bin left that I’m not sure how to store, but at least I can see some of it.

First I painted the old shelf BLACK.  Leaving the WHITE parts White.

039

Then, I had the Home Depot guy cut some dowels for me. Twelve dowels, thirteen inches long. After that, I drilled a hole about 3/8 inches for each dowel on each side of the shelf.

008

Okay, so here’s the tricky part.  Because the dowel is fed through the side of the shelf, I had to feed it through the ribbon and out the other side.

011

I didn’t paint the dowels, actually, I didn’t even really sand them either. Here is a picture of my ribbon shelf in it’s full glory. I used blue painter’s tape to keep the ribbon from unraveling. LOVE THIS SHELF!!

File Cabinet Drawer Frames

My file cabinets are very organized.  But some of them do not just have files in them.  However, I thought it would be cute to make these little frames for each of the drawers in my cabinet.  I think I might make another set for the other cabinet that say “stuff” and “things” instead of the letters.  What do you think? Thanks for looking!

  1. Purchased the frames from the 99 cent store.
  2. Painted them black.  (They were like a bronze color??)
  3. Put the glass back in and added a piece of red fabric.
  4. Used my cricut to cut out the off-white “frame”.
  5. Used my cricut to cut out the black letters.
  6. Used a glue stick to adhere the letters and frame to the fabric.
  7. Added a strip of magnet tape to the backs so they will “stick” to the file cabinet drawers.

Below is a picture of them getting their black matt finish.

Chalk Ink Board ~ Updated

Here is the link to the Chalk Ink Board that I made a couple of days ago.

I added a piece of red material behind the original Fleur De Lis.  I also moved it over to the bottom RIGHT so that I could line up my check-list.  :D

Ribbon Boards

007b 007

As I’ve mentioned before, my office is moving.  I made these 2 Ribbon Boards to go in my new cubical.  They will take up one wall, above my desk, and below my cubbies.  They should be an exact fit.  We shall see.  This is how I made them.

    1.  I cut 2 pieces of carboard out in the size that I needed.  I chose cardboard instead of bulletin board because I need them to squeeze behind the desk a tad and behind the cubbies.  I wanted it to have a custom look to it.
001
    2.  Then I sprayed them with Spray Glue.  Attached batting and cut the batting to the size of the cardboard.
003
    3.  Spray the batting with spray glue and lay that on the fabric.  Cut the fabric a little bit larger than the cardboard.  Fold ends over and hot glue.
005
    4.  I added ribbon by hot gluing the ends to the backside.  Then, I used covered buttons and sewed them on using embroidery floss and pulling through the back.  I didn’t want the cardboard to rip, so I tide my knot around a paper clip.  I looked all over for large BRADS, but could not find them.  :(  This worked great though!

Chalk Ink Board

028

I’m getting ready to decorate my new cubicle.  My office is moving and we all got new cubicles. These are “single” cubicles.  Can’t believe I’m excited about that considering that any job I’ve had since graduating college I’ve had my own office.  Oh well.  Not happy about the long commute, but trying to make the best of it.  I will post before and after shots of my cubicle.  For now, I’m going to show you my “dry erase board”.  I’m going with an off-white and black theme.  Throwing in some Fleur De Lis here and there.  I can’t decide what color to use as an accent color.  Leaning towards a red or apple green.

006

Remember that old picture that I picked up for $1.00 at the yard sale a couple of weeks ago?  Well, I….

  • Painted the frame black
  • Covered the cardboard insert with black duck fabric
  • Covered that with a layer of black burlap
  • Added a fleur de lis that I cut out of my main fabric
  • Purchased CHALK INK (love this find)
  • Going to glue cubical clip/pins to the back to hang in my cube!

I know you’re going to ask, so I’ll tell you that I found my set of chalk ink markers at Michael’s for around $11.  I used a 40% off coupon and got them for around $5 for a set of 4.  I purchased the “Earthy Set”. Hope this helps.  :D

Village Frock

022

I finally made a Village Frock top for Riley. To be honest, I thought I was cutting out the size 2 dress.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  I ended up cutting out the size 2 top.  Still adorable, but I wanted the dress. Anyway, this is just the cutest. She does talk about it having a lot of hand sewing and she was right.  The whole thing cost me a day and half of cutting and sewing.  But it was so worth it.  Love this little top.

009

Then, a friend on one of my forums busted out pictures of these adorable little clippies.  I knew they’d be perfect for this little top.  So, using Embird with Studio, I digitized the clips and flowers.  Then I embroidered them, cut them out, and stacked them.  I love how they frayed.  After they frayed enough, I added a tad of fray check along the stitches to keep them in place.  THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Baby Jenna

img_7764b

Our church was having a CRAB FEED and SILENT AUCTION to support the youth in going overseas for a missions trip.  I donated a custom baby BASKET for the silent auction.  If I remember correctly, this basket sold for $80. It includes:

  • One TAG Blanket
  • One TAG Ball
  • 2 BURP Pads
  • 2 BIBS

The Blanket, Ball, and Burp Pads were all made to match the baby’s bedding. I digitized the designs on the bibs.  Mom is a teacher and Dad owns his own lawn service.  The basket was bid on and won by a loving friend of the Mommy-to-be.  I made the items just in time for the baby shower.

Hair Clippies

013

Thought I’d try my hand at these felt hair clippies.  I made them “in-the-hoop”. Message me if you want the design.  They were done in 5 min.  I’m working on a “village frock” for Riley right now and think these would look GORGEOUS with it! Well, not these particular ones…ones made out of coordinating fabric.  :D Thanks for looking!

God Bless This House

015
The BEFORE picture.

Go ahead and click on the picture to zoom in…you know you want to.  ;)

019

I picked up this piece of wood with this painted welcome sign on it at a garage sale today for $1.00!  I painted it black (and while I had the paint can out, I decided to paint over the yellow on this shelf.)  I have had this shelf since high school!  I’ve painted it so many times, I can’t even count them.  The yellow went with my previous office.  It was purple and yellow.  I know, a bit much, but those were the colors of our business.  Everything was purple and yellow. I wanted people to see those colors and think of us.

026

Okay, getting back to this little piece of wood.  First, I painted it with Behr, flat enamel.  Then, I used my medium grit sanding block and distressed it.

027 028

I used my new CRICUT and cut the words out of contact paper.  Yes, contact paper.  Then I “eyeballed” the letters on.  That was probably the hardest thing out of this whole project.

030

The letters were so white.  So I used my Ralph Lauren glaze to try and “age” it. It didn’t work on the letters, it just wiped right off.  They were so WHITE.  I didn’t know what to do, so I grabbed a can of black spray paint and “dusted” it. Eh, it’ll do for now.

032

Oh, and here is the “AFTER” of that old shelf.  I’m still not done with it.  I’m going to drill holes and add dowels through each shelf to hang my ribbon from in my craft room.  So, check back for that unveiling.  LOL
