Drue’s Birthday
Speaking of birthday cakes…here is the one I made for Drue’s birthday last year.
Lexi’s 13th Birthday
I almost forgot to show you guys pictures of Lexi’s birthday cake that I made. This was her first boy/girl party. They kids were awesome! No drama and everyone got along. They went on a scavenger hunt, sat by the fire outside, ate hamburgers and hotdogs. Roasted marshmallows and ate s’mores. Guys went home and the girls watched scary movies and stayed up late chatting. So fun! Thanks for looking!
I made this in such a hurry at the very last minute. In fact, I was wiping down the counters when the first guest arrived. I meant to put the ribbon on the top cake and the black fondant ribbon on the middle cake. Oh well. The top layer was made from scratch boxed! Gah! I know. It was a confetti mix. The second layer was made from scratch bought from the bakery. It was this awesome looking chocolate cake that I scraped all the extra fudgy stuff off of and left the frosting for my dirty frosting under the fondant. The bottom layer was made from scratch boxed. Yikes…I can hear it now. Yes, it was a couple of boxes of vanilla. Something for everyone. The jr. highers were so cute, they all grabbed their cell phones and took pictures to send to their parents. (EVEN THE BOYS!) How sweet, huh? Well, you know how jr. high girls are…they share a piece of rice and they’re full. Gave some of the cake away and still ended up doing this…
Yes, that would be the cake in the garbage. 1 piece of the top cake, 1/2 of the middle cake, and most of the bottom cake. :( I need to make smaller cakes.
Riley’s First Birthday
Riley turned ONE in August! I’m just now posting pix because this blog is new. :-) The theme was a pink and brown polka-dot theme. Original, I know. I took Riley to Old Sacramento to take photos for her birthday invitations. I made a tutu and embroidered a little matching tank top for her. Added some tule on the tank top for a 3-D effect.
Pictures for the Invitations
Sadly, Riley had been very sick up until a couple of days before her birthday. I can really see in these pictures how pale she was.
Poor baby. This was the first time making a cake like this. I love that show Ace of Cakes and figured, “I could do that”. So I did.
Birthday Cakes
I also made Riley’s Birthday dress using McCall’s Pattern M5791. I made her new Bitty Baby’s matching dress using Simplicity 4268 (slightly altering it.) I made Riley’s bloomers under her dress using Butterick Pattern 3782 (Although the McCall’s Pattern did come with a pattern for bloomers as well. Not sure why I didn’t use that one instead. Prolly because I had the other one already cut out and wanted to save that one for when I needed a larger pattern. I dunno.) I made Riley’s and Dolly’s matching birthday hats, too. I just embroidered the design on a piece of fabric. Spray glued it to an existing cardboard party hat and hot glued it shut. Easy Peasy. For Dolly’s, I just cut the old party hat down to size and did the same. I made Riley’s matching big using Simplicity Pattern 2924. I hate sewing on that vinyl. How do you guys sew with that stuff? Comments please!
